OCCHD Begins Booster Shots For COVID Vaccine

Following new guidelines from the FDA and the CDC, the county health department will have third shots of Moderna and second doses of Johnson and Johnson available starting Monday. 

To be eligible for a Moderna booster shot: you must be 65 or older or be an adult in long-term care settings, someone with existing medical conditions, or an adult who lives or works in high-risk settings. 

The Johnson and Johnson eligibility is much broader. Someone must be over the age of 18 who got their shot at least two months ago. 

OCCHD continues to offer the Pfizer booster doses to those who received their second Pfizer vaccine six months ago. 

There is no documentation required to receive any booster dose.  

Federal health agencies said it's okay to mix and match vaccines, so now the county will pick which vaccine you would prefer. 

"We do expect an uptick in demand. I think a lot of people when Pfizer was initially released and announced as boosters. We had a lot of folks that were asking that question. 'I got a Moderna. When will it be my turn? I got J&J. I would like to know more,'" said Buffy Heater, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Health.
