Tulsa Police arrested an employee of a restaurant after they say he pulled a gun on a customer, then hid from police for seven hours inside the restaurant.

Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean said the seven-hour ordeal started outside the Fat Guys burger restaurant in Greenwood, right after a couple and their child walked in to order some food.

"They walk in and there's nobody in there to take their order they notice. They walk back out and approach our suspect, turns out to be our suspect, our male sitting on the bench to ask him you know, who's working in there," Ofc. Bean said.

Bean said the couple asked Dean if he was working.

"I guess at some point there's a misunderstanding. He gets up, and according to our victim's statement he gets up, kind of goes towards his waistband like he has a gun but walks away, retrieves a gun, comes back and points it at them," Ofc. Bean.

When officers got there, Dean went back inside and wouldn't come out.

TPD officer said Dean told them he pulled the gun in self-defense after the husband got aggressive when Dean told them not to come back.

Police say after Dean pulled the gun on the family, he hid in the bathroom - and ended up climbing into the ceiling and into the next-door business.

“They’re eventually able to get in there, into this restaurant. They clear the building, the structure to make sure it’s safe and they eventually locate our suspect in the ceiling,” Bean said.

Dean was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Obstruction, and Unlawfully Carrying a Gun.

Tulsa County court records show this isn't Dean's first run-in with the law.

Dean was also charged last August with shooting with intent to kill - but he pled guilty to a reduced charge of reckless discharge of a firearm. He was given a six-month deferred sentence and no jail time.
