'You Never Forget It': Veterans Honored For Work Helping Other Local Veterans

More than a dozen veterans were honored for helping other veterans in the Tulsa and Broken Arrow area on Thursday night.

Hundreds of friends and family members watched as 14 people, all veterans but one, were inducted into a Hall of Honor.

Their names and pictures will be placed in the military history museum in Broken Arrow.

Henry Primeaux was in the Navy between World War 2 and the Korean War, and he says he’s excited to be included in the ceremony.

He says no matter how much time passes, he has never forgotten his time in the service.

“It’s just a great night for me, it’s like being a kid again, and I’m going to be 83 next month,” said Primeaux. “I’m not a kid anymore. It’s more important today than ever before, because our country is divided. And the services bring our country back together again. So that’s why I’m honored beyond words, I might even cry!”

Primeaux was honored for his donations to help start the military history museum in Broken Arrow.

He wanted to do all he could to make sure people don’t forget the sacrifices military members have made and will make.

“You never forget it, but the bond that you form in the Navy, the Army, the Marine Corps, all of these old gentlemen, I’m an old guy now, these are heroes,” said Primeaux.

Brigadier General Tom Mancino is on the board for the museum and says the Hall of Honor recognizes veterans who might otherwise go unnoticed.

“They decided to have local chapters to recognize veterans that probably will never be inducted in the hall of fame, but they put veterans in there that have silver stars, medal of honors, things like this,” said Mancino.

Primeaux hopes people will continue to respect those who fight for our freedoms.

“These fellas are old now,” said Primeaux. “We’re all getting ready to go. It worries me how people are going to feel about the things that we did, and all we did was for you, and everybody else, and our families.”

The Military History Center plans to induct 10 more people next year, so if you know of anyone who has done a lot to help veterans, whether they are one or not, they ask you contact them.
