They lit candles, played music, and talked about how it’s important to come together as a community.

Asher Aven with the Trans Advocacy Coalition of Oklahoma says they want LGBTQ kids in Oklahoma to know they are loved.

"I want children of Oklahoma and the United States and the world to know that there are people out there that care about you," Aven said. "I have gotten personal messages all over the world saying that we are mourning Nex, and I want you to know that as a non-binary person myself, you can grow up to be an adult. A transgender adult that's happy and proud."

Aven says they feel less alone when people can mourn together.
