An apartment building burned into the overnight hours Saturday in Woodward.

The Woodward Fire Department (WFD) responded to a 911 call at 7:30 p.m. about a single-unit apartment fire at Briarwood Apartments, located at 3311 22nd St.

On arrival, firefighters found an apartment building engulfed in flames.

At 2 a.m., the WFD was still fighting the flames on the east end of the complex. Officials said 20 apartments had burned, and 40 residents had been evacuated.

Harper, Ellis and Woods County Fire Departments assisted the WFD in extinguishing the fire. Woodward Emergency Management, the American Red Cross and the Woodward County E.M.S. also aided the WFD.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries have been reported.

The American Red Cross is operating a temporary shelter for displaced residents at the Woodward Pioneer Room, located at 1212 9th St.

Woodward City Manager Alan Riffel has encouraged evacuated Briarwood residents to utilize these emergency shelter and aid opportunities.

Displaced residents may call 580-256-3828 for additional information regarding available services.
