A news conference with the Oklahoma County Detention Center jail administrator and the jail trust’s chair starts at 11:30 Wednesday morning at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
The jail trust is admitting that the facility has some significant problems that contribute to the stress of the detainees, staff and vendors. This includes the detainee who took an officer hostage over the weekend.
"With a lot of focused attention, we can start to see the changes within this year," jail trustee Francie Ekwerekwu said.
The jail trust said it is actively pursuing long-term solutions with the medical provider for inmates.
Turn Key Health is threatening to end its contract if the jail staffing problems aren't addressed.
In a joint statement, Turn Key said the warning does not mean they want to stop serving the detention center and that they're "committed partners with the jail."
The state’s Department of Corrections is helping staff the detention center for the time being.
At this time, three jailers have resigned or submitted resignations since Sunday.
The jail trust said it should receive a preliminary report soon from Oklahoma City police on the hostage situation.
A full report could several weeks.
