New Public Art Installation In Downtown Tulsa Highlights City's Past, Bright Future

A special piece of art is now on display outside the Cox Center in downtown Tulsa.

A special piece of art is now on display outside the Cox Center in downtown Tulsa. The piece is called Highlight.

Tirado says the giant two-pronged plug pays tribute to downtown Tulsa's Blue Dome District and represents the city's past reliance on natural resources.

The electrical cord is made from metal that was created in Tulsa by American Pipe Bending.

Then, the giant lightbulb, symbolizing Tulsa's bright future.

Mayor G.T Bynum says Tulsa is an art city and this piece fits right in with the culture the city.

He says the project wouldn't be possible without Tulsans supporting the Vision Tulsa program.

"I want to thank the citizens of Tulsa for believing in our city and investing in it in the way that they did," Bynum said. 

The light bulb is scheduled to light up for the first time tonight at 8:15.
