Tulsa Police continue to investigate after a shooting outside Hillcrest Hospital near 11th and Utica late Thursday night.
Police said a woman shot a security officer and the officer fired back. Police said the officer's vest stopped the bullet, which most likely saved his life.
Police said it all started when someone ran into the ER saying they heard gun shots last night.
When security went outside to investigate, police say they talked to a woman who was in a car and asked her if she heard gunshots, but she told them she heard fireworks. Police said that's when the woman pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the chest, who then returned fire, hitting her at least once.

"In this situation it's kind of a stark reminder that you need to be aware all the time, because here is just a security guard representing law enforcement, going out there doing his job, doing an investigation and as far as we can tell, for no real reason, he gets shot,” said Captain Richard Muelenberg with Tulsa Police.
Police say the woman will be booked into jail after she is released from the hospital. Officers say they are still working to learn what led up to the shooting.
