Tulsa detectives are investigating a homicide involving two scenes. Investigators are working to learn what led to a deadly shooting at an apartment near Apache and North Peoria.
Detectives said the victim is Joel Russell, but they don't know much else yet. They said they're working to figure out if Russell lived in the apartment complex where he was killed or how he got there.
"When they got out there they found the victim dead inside of an apartment. We think the actual shooting happened outside and the victim just stumbled in there for cover," said Lieutenant Brandon Watkins.
Watkins said detectives are speaking with neighbors to see if anyone knows more about the victim.
"We're trying to figure out his history and what's going on there and obviously, we're still a little bit behind and just beginning the investigation really," said Lt. Watkins.
He said for now, detectives aren't releasing much information about the shooting.
"Obviously in stuff like this, we play things pretty close to the vest and we don't want to release too much information and too much of what we know this early in the investigation. As it gets along and we're a little more comfortable with what we do have we tend to release more information," said Lt. Watkins.
He said right now what they need is information, and lots of it.
"A homicide investigation it's basically a who-dun-it. Starts out with more questions than answers and we're in the process of trying to figure out at least some of those answers," said Lt. Watkins.
If you know anything about the shooting you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 918-596-COPS.
