Trial Begins For Owasso Woman Accused Of Killing Husband In 2013

Vicky McNeely is accused of shooting and killing her husband in 2013. On Wednesday her murder trial finally got underway after nearly 8 years.

It took eight and a half years, but on Wednesday, an Owasso woman went on trial for murder in the death of her husband.

Vicky McNeely was charged with the murder in 2013, but the trial got delayed over and over again. Vicky McNeely's attorney said in court that there is no argument Vicky shot and killed her husband, but they say she acted in self-defense, saying Dan McNeely came at her with knives, threatening to kill her.

Dan McNeely was found dead at the McNeely’s home with two knives Lying next to him. Investigators say he had been shot five times, including once in the back of the head. Deputies testified Vicky McNeely told them that night, her husband tried to kill her. They also testified they could smell alcohol on her.

The lead detective testified there was no evidence of a struggle in the home and since there was blood on the handles of the knives, he didn’t believe Dan was holding the knives when he was shot.

The medical examiner testified the victim was shot three times in the back and shoulder area, once In the back of the head and once in the stomach. Vicky McNeely’s attorney argued her husband struggled with depression, was suicidal, and had a drinking problem.

Prosecutors finished presenting their case Wednesday and now McNeely’s attorneys are calling their witnesses to the stand. The case is expected to go to the jury Thursday afternoon.
