Tulsa police say two men are in custody and two people are in the hospital after a shooting near 71st and Riverside Thursday night. Police told News On 6 that there were three separate scenes they investigated for this shooting that happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

TPD said two men saw another man breaking into their car at the Pheasant Run Apartments near 71st and Riverside and started yelling at him but the person didn’t leave. They say the men had been moving into that apartment and left their windows open in that SUV. When they looked off the balcony, TPD said that is when they saw the back hatch of the SUV up and a man inside.

Police say both men grabbed a gun and ran downstairs to confront the suspect.

They told police the man breaking into the car also had a gun and started firing shots at the two men as he was running away, so they fired back.

TPD said the suspect ran to a car waiting nearby with a woman driver already inside. They say the suspect was shot during the gunfight and has critical injuries. They said the driver was hit in the arm but is expected to be okay.

Police say another innocent woman was driving nearby at the time with her baby in the car when she heard the gunshots and realized her car was being hit so she drove away. Police say neither of them suffered any injuries.

According to TPD, the suspect and driver made it to 36th and Peoria and called for EMSA. Tulsa Police Capt. Jarred Hart said this is when they began questioning everyone involved and now have the two shooters in custody.

“Right now they’re claiming it was self-defense,” Hart said. “There are all kinds of things we will have to investigate to make sure on what the final charges will be.”

TPD told News On 6 that there was also a fourth unrelated scene at 36th and Peoria when a drunk driver in a pickup truck drove through the police tape and onto the crime scene that had already been established. TPD said that driver has also been taken into custody.

Tulsa Police have not released the names of any of the victims or suspect at this time.
