Six teenagers were wounded in a shooting Monday near a high school in Colorado, authorities said. The shooting occurred at a local park across the street from Aurora Central High School.

The Aurora Police Department said it was responding to a shooting in Nome Park just before 1 p.m. local time. Authorities said six teens between the ages of 14 and 18 have been hospitalized, with one in emergency surgery. Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson said the 18-year-old victim transported themselves to the hospital with "minor" injuries.

"When I got the call, my heart dropped," Wilson said. "Enough is enough."

Wilson said she believes first responders "saved a life today," noting they used a tourniquet to stem the bleeding of the student who is now in surgery.

Police believe multiple suspects were involved in the shooting, Wilson said. She did not provide additional information. The high school was placed in a "secure perimeter," but is now releasing students, Wilson said. One witness told CBS Denver that they heard what sounded like 30 to 50 shots.
