Cases of COVID-19 are continuing to trend upward in Oklahoma.
Health leaders across the state fear it's not going to stop any time soon.
In the latest epidemiology report, it shows that the states cases last week went up by more than 15 percent compared to the week before, and this doesn't even include the post-Christmas testing.
In total, more than 8 thousand cases were reported across the state last week, alongside 49 total deaths related to COVID-19.
With the rise of the Omicron variant, health officials across the state are raising the alarm for a continued trend upwards.
Dr. Dale Bratzler from OU Health said the good news is that there are four outpatient treatments that are effective in treating someone with COVID.
However, one of them, monoclonal antibodies, may not be as effective against Omicron.
"When you have a patient come in who tested positive, who has symptoms and may be at a high risk, which monoclonal antibody do you give them?" said Bratzler.
He recommends that people get vaccinated and boosted.
According to the latest epidemiology report, a little more than 1.7 million people in the state are being considered fully vaccinated.
At last check, more than 550 thousand booster doses have been administered as well.
