The City of Tulsa and the Downtown Tulsa Partnership have a plan to rebuild the plaza at The Center of Universe with the goal of maintaining the unique acoustics that draw tourists.

The plaza is on closed bridge along Boston Avenue that crosses railroad tracks, just north of First Street.

The crumbling brick pathway has been patched with asphalt, generating a social media outcry, but a major plan to rebuild it has been in the works for two years. A website to gather public input for the plan is now live.

According to the DTP, the plan is to gather input during February, present a design to the City of Tulsa in May and begin construction by the end of the year. The projected cost is $7.6 million with the bulk of the funding from the City and some private donations raised by the DTP.

DTP director Brian Kurtz said audio experts would be consulted during the project in an attempt to identify the cause of the unusual acoustics at the site and preserve the effect during the renovation.
