A Coweta business owner said a dispute over operating a food truck in front of her store could have her moving to another city.

Shelby Brewster started a tie dye business in Coweta three years ago in a building owned by her parents. She added a food truck outside, but no longer can after being notified it’s against city ordinances to do business in a public parking spot.

“It just stinks because we want to be here, we love being here” said Brewster.

The truck has relocated to Broken Arrow, on a private parking lot. That would work in Coweta too - but Brewster's storefront doesn't have a parking lot.

City Manager Roger Kolman said the truck was taking up a spot along the busy state highway that also serves as Coweta’s main street.

“Mostly it's related to public safety and especially in cities adjacent to state highways, our parking situation is very precious and if you fill those up with people conducting business, it takes away from the parking that's available” said Kolman.

The tie dye business is going good, according to Brewster, but the success of the food truck depends, she believes, on being nearby - so she's considered packing up both businesses and leaving town.

“We're going to make it work, honestly we'll probably relocate. It's been a wonderful three years, but we want to try and find a spot where we can utilize both businesses together.”
