A Bruce Springsteen exhibit opens Saturday at the Woody Guthrie Center in downtown Tulsa. The last time Bruce Springsteen performed in Tulsa was back in 2009 at the BOK Center. Now fans can surround themselves with some of his guitars, and even get a little advice.
The Grammy Museum teamed up with the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music to bring the iconic collection to the Woody Guthrie Center. "Woody Guthrie was a huge, huge influence on Bruce Springsteen,” Founding Executive Director of the Grammy museums and co-curator of “Bruce Springsteen Live!” Bob Santelli said.
Santelli, along with Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music Director Eileen Chapman curated the exhibit, which will be in Tulsa for only a few months. "It took about a year and a half to two years and really we were at it for seven days a week,” Chapman said.
Springsteen kept many of his hotel keys over the years, including one on display from the Holiday Inn in Oklahoma City.
Tulsans can also see two scrapbooks from the 70s, made by Springsteen’s mother, Adele. "Mom took care of it for us,” Santelli said. “She got it all down in her scrapbooks."
There is also an interactive feature in the exhibit, where Springsteen explains how he comes up with his encores. Visitors can compare their encore choices with Springsteen's.
The exhibit will run through September 25, then everything will be moved out to LA.
