The holiday season is underway and for many that means it's time to turn on the Christmas lights. There were at least three “lights on” events Friday evening.

At Guthrie Green, “Glow on the Green” event meant bright colors and cheerful songs at its annual event.

There were also arts and crafts to check out, and people could get a free picture with Santa.

Down the road in Jenks, Ben Sumner put the final touches on the display at his house before the crowds arrive. He started decorating two months ago.

"It's a lot of planning and a lot of love. And a lot of time,” Sumner said.

Kringle's Christmas Land near 125th and Elm runs from 6:00-10:00 each night through the end of the year.

"I just love the community coming out and spreading as much Christmas cheer as we can,” Somner said.

And at the University of Tulsa, it's time to turn the lights on after a weather delay pushed the event to tonight. Campus will be covered in blue and white lights, like it has been in years past.

“We’ve got one million lights that we're turning on this year,” TU Spokeswoman Mona Chamberlain said. "Campus is just gonna be gorgeous."

Beyond the lights, TU is offering free food and drinks, and lots of activities like roasting s'mores and getting a picture with Santa.

"We have Santa's workshop. And you can make your own ornaments, you can write a letter to Santa. We've got Mrs. Claus Bakery, where you can grab cookies and peppermint parfaits and other desserts,” Chamberlain said.

TU is expecting thousands, and welcoming everyone.

"It's also a way for TU to really invite the community and make the community part of the TU campus,” she said.
