Law enforcement says the people who defaced and left a dead longhorn on an Oklahoma State University fraternity house front lawn could be looking at steep fines and jail time.
Bart Perrier, a Special Ranger with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, investigates agricultural crime cases for more than 20 counties in northeastern Oklahoma.
Perrier says in his nearly 30 years in law enforcement, he’s never seen anything like this.
Video shows a dead longhorn that was left in the front yard of an Oklahoma State University fraternity house.
"Any time you get into defacing and abusing animals, it's a whole other level of an issue, in my opinion,” said Perrier. “A prank is a prank, but this isn't like vandalism. This is definitely disturbing."
Perrier is not on this case but says the people responsible for this can face several charges- even if the animal might have already been dead.
"You cannot deface or use an animal for a prank; I mean, it's improper disposal of an animal, which is a crime in itself,” said Perrier.
He says it’s important to treat animals with respect and dignity in agriculture- and it’s never okay to do something like this.
"I guarantee you every rancher in this world that sees this is going to be aggravated because this is not right,” said Perrier. “You don't do this. And for it to be a joke, just that someone is going to do this for a prank to be funny, that's wrong."
"The agriculture world, there's an end process to where they go to slaughter where there's still a more humane situation than this!" said Perrier.
Perrier hopes anyone who knows what happened or who was involved does the right thing and reports it to law enforcement.
"Because it will come out. There's going to be way too many people aware of this situation,” said Perrier.
Anyone with information on what happened should call Stillwater Police.
