Luther residents evacuate as wildfire approaches

News 9's Deanne Stein is in Luther, where residents are evacuating due to fires.

One resident said he knew it was time to leave when he looked out his window and saw the smoke.

He said his wife, mother, and three children all had to evacuate for safety.

"We packed our bags, a couple of nights' worth of clothes, our passports … and got out," he said.

The resident said the fire was within a mile of his home. He lives in an area where about 10 neighbors are within a quarter-mile of each other.

He said all the neighbors he knows have already evacuated.
