NORMAN, Oklahoma -- A jury has found Billy Davis guilty in the 2007 murders of three people in Norman.
The 52-year-old Davis is accused of killing three women with a shotgun at a Norman residence in September 2007. Davis was found guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of 52-year-old Tami Link, 56-year-old Sheila Ellis and 87-year-old Letannah Bishop. Davis was also found guilty of assault with intent to kill.
Jurors retired at 12:45 p.m. after prosecution and defense attorneys gave closing arguments and met for more than three hours.
In his closing remarks to the jury, District Attorney Greg Mashburn said the case was very simple. "The truth is the truth is the truth," Mashburn said.
Defense attorney Craig Corgan said Davis is an alcoholic who was so drunk at the time of the shooting he couldn't form the intent to commit murder. He said Davis also had a blackout and doesn't know what happened.
Davis showed no emotion as the verdicts were read. He faces either the death penalty or life in prison with or without parole.
