PURCELL, Oklahoma – Purcell police captured the second L.E. Rader escapee William James Tuesday night.
The Office of Juvenile Affairs said James, also known as Tharp, was captured around 10:20 p.m. An off-duty officer spotted James.
James, 17, and Dillon Herzfeld, 15, escaped May 26 from the center located on Highway 51 in Sand Springs, by cutting a hole in a fence.
Dillon Herzfeld was arrested late Monday afternoon on I-35. William James escaped by fleeing through traffic across I-35 on foot.
Both juveniles have been returned to L.E. Rader and will be placed in the more secure unit of the Intensive Treatment Program.
"We are extremely grateful for all of the hard work and hours that the Purcell Police Department and our investigators put into bringing these youth back into our custody," said the Office of Juvenile Affairs in a press release.
The Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs said the pair are serving time at the L.E. Rader Center for a variety offenses, including first-degree rape and larceny.
