TULSA, Oklahoma -- There are plenty of options for those looking for a place to party this New Year's Eve - even those who have waited until the last minute.

There are celebrations all over Green Country, but downtown business owners are making a pitch to party-goers to stay in Tulsa this New Year's Eve.

The Crowne Plaza's ballroom is empty now, but on Friday night it will be full of people celebrating the New Year. The hotel is hosting its annual affair, and this one will be unique.

At midnight, the Crowne Plaza officially becomes a Hyatt.

"It's one of our larger events. It's especially special this year. We're transitioning to a Hyatt January 1. It will be a nice way to end our era with the Crowne Plaza, and begin it with the Hyatt," said Jeff Keeley, general manager.

The Crowne Plaza celebration includes a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament, a cigar and martini bar and performances by several bands. Management says they still have suites available, but recession-weary people are ready to party this year.

"People are coming back. People want to celebrate the New Year. Hopefully it's an improvement over 2010. People want to put the past behind them and celebrate the future," Keeley said.

Another option would be to come down to the Blue Dome District, which for the first time ever will be shutting down surrounding streets and having a party outside. There will be all sorts of options available for those looking to have a good time New Year's Eve.

"We're kind of hoping to create a full-on, lights on after Thanksgiving. A lot more events down here and draw a lot more people to downtown Tulsa, make everybody realize that it's pretty cool down here," said Muriel Hakiam of the McNellie's Group.

Elgin will be closed between 1st and 2nd streets, and there will be fireworks at midnight. All the area bars are taking part, but organizers say it's also a family-friendly option for ringing in the New Year.

"It's for everybody. So if your kids are up for staying up to midnight, it's going to be pretty cool. It's going to be a lot of fun, and it's inclusive of all," Hakiam said.

For the more active, Fleet Feet is also hosting a Resolution Run. It's a 5K race that starts at 10:30 at night, and finishes in the Blue Dome District.
