TULSA, Oklahoma -- A rash of air conditioning related thefts from a south Tulsa strip mall prompted Tulsa Police detectives to set up surveillance early Thursday and it leads to an arrest.

Detectives asked assistance when they spotted a 45-year-old man on the roof of the strip mall at 66th and South Lewis at about 4:30 a.m.

Oscar Richard Williams Jr. was booked into Tulsa County jail on four felony complaints including assault on police dog, larceny of copper, malicious injury to property and second degree burglary (all after former conviction of a felony) and a misdemeanor complaint of resisting arrest.

Police officers surrounded the building and ordered the man to come down.

The man jumped off the roof and ran for about a block before a TPD K9 officer helped capture him. The arrest report states that Williams tried to choke the police dog during the arrest.

Tulsa Police say an inspection revealed that four air conditioning units on the roof had been tampered with along with several tools left by the suspect.

The man was taken by EMSA to a Tulsa hospital to be treated for dog bites before he was taken to the Tulsa County jail.

Detectives say while they were questioning Williams, he admitted to another unrelated burglary.
