STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Bixby Spartans played on the same level with the Carl Albert Titans all game, except when it came to the turnover battle.
The Spartans went down early due to two first-half turnovers, going into the locker room at halftime trailing 14-7, despite leading Carl Albert is most of statistical categories.
The second half turned into a defensive stalemate, both teams stalled at a seven-point difference, until Bixby quarterback Kevin Lamb threw an interception with 10:00 left in the game, accounting for the Spartans fifth turnover.
Carl Albert quarterback J.T. Realmuto was clearly the championship game MVP for the Titans, leading his squad both on the ground and in the air. The senior converted a crucial fourth down with less than eight minutes left on the clock and then one minute later punched in a one-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Bixby had one more chance to respond, but when Lamb was sacked trying to convert a fourth down, Carl Albert ran off the remaining 5:34 to claim their tenth Gold Ball in the last 21 seasons, and their first since 2006.
