Trojans were solid in 2009, but have even bigger goals for upcoming season.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Kiefer Trojans had a solid season last year, but have their hopes even higher for 2010.

Kiefer went 9-3 last season but returns a solid cast of playmakers that should have it challenging for a district title.

Coach Josh Calvert said this season will be tough, knowing his team will take each opponent’s best shot.

“Last year was a great season,” he said. “We kind of flew under the radar and probably snuck up on a few teams that weren’t expecting it. This year we will have a little bit of a target on our back. People will be gunning for us.”

Those teams will have to put up with one of the top receivers in the class in Nick Livingston, who put up an impressive 895 yards and 11 touchdowns last year.

Joey Ralston, who starts at linebacker for the Trojans, will also carry much of the rushing load for his team after scoring five touchdowns and racking up 261 yards last year.

Sergio Lazoya is Class B’s fourth-leading returning tackler. He had 138 tackles for the Trojans last year and should put up huge numbers again in 2010.

Calvert said his team might have just the right combination of experience and youth to make some noise in Class B this season.

“It’s wide open this year and we realize that,” he said. “We’ve got a great group of seniors up here, so we have a lot of experience plus a lot of young kids that are hungry.”
