Millwood: The Falcons are one of two teams in 2A that are undefeated and the district two regular season champions aren’t done yet. With six seniors, all of which have Division I offers, and a number of underclassmen boasting big talent, it looks like the Falcons have a good chance at this years gold ball. One season ago they went 12-2 before losing in the semifinals to the eventual state runner-up. They have a balanced attack and average 290 yards passing and 251.5 rushing yards per game.
Talihina: The Golden Tigers are the only other team in 2A that are undefeated on the season entering the playoffs. They have shutout three teams this season and in those games scored a total of 126 points. One of the most impressive stats for the Golden Tigers is that during this years regular season, opponents have only scored a total of 85 points against Talihina. That averages out to less than nine points allowed per game, which is impressive. Talihina averages 344 rushing yards per game led by senior Jordan Eagle Road who has 148 carries for 1707 yards, which is an average of 11.5 yards per carry.
Lincoln Christian: The Bulldogs are the defending state champions from last year and at 8-2, 5-1 on the season, and they know what it takes to get to the top. Although they graduated many of the starters from that team, this season has produced turnover talent unafraid of the challenge. The Bulldogs average 168 yards through the air and 208 on the ground. They are led by offensive weapons Zack Simmons and Brennen Evans. Simmons has 155 carries for 1214 yards and 17 touchdowns so far this season while Evans has 35 receptions for 721 yards and 11 touchdowns. On defense they rely on big stops by Scott Zickefoose who averages 8.3 tackles per game.
Watonga: The Eagles who moved up a class this season won district 2A-1 and have only one loss on the season which came week one at Kingfisher. Since then Watonga has stomped the competition averaging 38 points per game and they have three shutouts. Although they were in Class A last year, the Eagles still played through the quarterfinals before losing to the eventual state champion, Tonkawa. They need big performances in the playoffs from seniors like Chad Mathis, Andrew Park, Jacob Rupp and Daron Johnson.
Davis: The Wolves who took the 2A-4 regular season title are undefeated in district play and have lost only one game in week two to 3A’s Heritage Hall. Last year, they lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual state champion, Lincoln Christian. One of their most impressive stats is that they have outscored their district opponents this season 290-27. They have shutout four teams and steamrolled their week 10 opponent 61-7. The Wolves average 316 rushing yards per game and 40 points so look for a big offensive attack to get out early and often this postseason.
