Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 3400 block of East 64th Street, near Harvard, Tuesday evening.

EMSA says they treated a 53-year-old man at the scene and then transported him by ambulance to a local hospital. He was last listed in fair condition.

A neighbor said a woman was cooking and heard a pop when she turned on a fan.

She told the neighbor that she didn't think much about it until a UPS man came to the door and alerted her to the fire.

Flames were shooting through the roof before crews arrived.

Fire teams kept the fire from spreading to the neighbors', but the home is a total loss.

Fighting a fire during the hottest part of the day at the peak of summer is brutal.

Now the Red Cross is on the scene helping keep firefighters as cool as possible, as they battle the flames.

Two firefighters had to be given IVs. They were taken to be checked out at the hospital.
