St. Gregory's University men's soccer player Luke Keogh has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America third team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Monday. Keogh, a senior from Ireland, was selected from more than 100 all-district honorees in the college division, which includes NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. He is the first-ever SGU student-athlete to receive the honor.
In order to be selected, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. Student-athletes must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing to be nominated.
Keogh, along with teammates Thomas McNamara and Brock Vorwald, were named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team earlier this month. That honor qualified them for consideration to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. Keogh is the only Sooner Athletic Conference player on the men's team.
Keogh started 15 games this season for the Cavs and recorded one goal and one assist. He has been on the dean's honor roll, president's honor roll and National Honor Society at SGU. Keogh has played in 63 games for SGU in his career, recording 32 shots and two game-winning goals. He has a 3.97 grade-point average while majoring in criminal justice. Keogh plans to attend law school following graduation.
