Study: Traffic At Tulsa International Airport Flat Compared Year To Year

Tulsa International Airport is seeing fewer planes come in and out, and these numbers are nothing new. A new study published in the Journal Record shows takeoffs and landings aren't recovering, after a steep drop-off more than four years ago.

Usually, it's not a good thing when you summarize a meeting by saying same song, second verse.

But that's what a Tulsa Airport Authority official at meeting about Tulsa International Airport's operations---meaning how many takeoffs and landings there were.

That number is holding steady---but the number of paying passengers leaving Tulsa is down 5 percent from December 2011, and down 2 percent from 2011 to 2012.

Arriving passenger numbers were about the same, down, year to year.

One airport official hopes creating more competition by attracting more airlines would help traffic, right now; four airlines serve Tulsa International Airport.

Two bright spots in the study, car rental transactions were up for the year, and total cargo at the airport was up by just over 1 percent in 2012, compared to the previous year.

Looking at Jones Riverside Airport in Jenks, airport operations in 2012 were down 17 percent compared to 2011.
