A death investigation has neighbors scared and investigators hard at work. On Saturday morning, cleanup volunteers discovered a dead body at Lake Overholser. The discovery was made near 6900 N. Morgan Rd.
Tonight, police are saying very little and that only adds to the uneasy feeling for folks who live around there. They received calls about it around 10:30 a.m. and when officers arrived, they found the body in the wildlife refuge here.
Oklahoma City Police say a group of volunteers was doing a cleanup early Saturday morning in honor of Earth Day on Monday. While they were picking up trash, one volunteer spotted something out of the ordinary.
"Apparently there was some type of group doing a cleanup and they located a body," said Jennifer Morris with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Police say a body was found in the west area of the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. Neighbors say they heard it was the body of a woman, possibly wrapped in a towel and dumped two days ago. Police cleared the area and the state medical examiner is investigating the cause of death.
"We dispatched officers to that location and they did find a body, detectives arrived on the scene and they are currently investigating," Morris said.
News 9 has not confirmed the gender or condition of the body just yet. Police wouldn't say if it was found on land or in the water.
