Gustoavo Zamora is being held without bond in the Oklahoma jail-accused of animal cruelty.

"It was horrible," said Maria Andrade, Zamora's sister in law. " I mean, how could you abuse an animal like that? How can you kill him?"

Maria Andrade says she witnessed her brother in law brutalize a young colt he was planning to sell. Now the colt is dead, and Zamora is behind bars.

"He was stomping on his stomach and everything," said Andrade. " Kicking him under it and everything, it was pretty bad."

Andrade says both she and her mother told him to stop, and ran inside to call police. She says the brutality continued, even though their young children were nearby.

"I don't know what got into him that day," said Andrade. " I guess he was drinking that day, I don't know."

This is a photo of one of the three horses they kept in the backyard. But they do not have a picture of the colt that was killed.

Andrade says her brother in law used a lasso to try to control the colt, after the horse jumped into a neighbor's yard.

"When he was pulling him, it was around his nose," recalled Andrade. " So he was like, suffocating him."

Andrade says she got stuck feeding the horses, after her husband and brother in law stopped caring for them. She says it caused a lot of friction with the neighbors, but she continued.

She had hoped her brother in law had come to take the horses away. She never dreamed it would end up like this.

Animal control did take possession of the dead colt, and those two other horses have been sold.

Zamora could face charges of animal cruelty. If convicted, he could spend anywhere from one to five years in jail.
