OHP Identifies Pilot Seriously Injured In Pott. County Plane Crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified a pilot who was seriously injured after an OHP aircraft he was flying crashed in Pottawatomie County, Friday evening.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified a pilot who was seriously injured after an OHP aircraft he was flying crashed in Pottawatomie County, Friday evening.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the plane crashed shortly after 7 p.m. near State Highway 9, about two miles east of State Highway 102 in Pott. County.

The pilot, Trooper Dennis Dickens, was assisting troopers and other law enforcement officials with a search for a crash victim that left the scene of an accident at Highway 9 and Bethel Rd.

Dickens was ejected from the aircraft and was found a short distance from the scene of the crash. He was flown by a medical helicopter to an Oklahoma City area hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Dickens is a veteran OHP fixed and rotary wing aircraft pilot with many years of service flying for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, according to officials.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating details of the aircraft collision.

The suspect from the original car crash, 50-year-old Brent McKenzie of Shawnee, was found and apprehended by law enforcement officers at the scene. He was booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail on several charges, including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, unsafe lane change and resisting arrest.

McKenzie is being held without bond.
