Narconon Arrowhead Loses Medical Detox Certification

Oklahoma officials say a medical detox center in Pittsburg County has lost temporary state certification to conduct medical detox services.

Jeffrey Desmukes is a spokesman for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health Substance Abuse Services. He said Friday that the Narconon Arrowhead facility in McAlester had not met the requirements to obtain a full certification to conduct medical detox services. Desmukes says temporary certification expired at the end of June.

Narconon Arrowhead operates two facilities in the county: the medical-detox site in McAlester and a non-medical drug rehabilitation center in Canadian.

Three patients at the Canadian facility have died in the past two years, leading to preliminary investigations by law enforcement authorities.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says the agency has no active investigation of the facility.
