Some Tulsa Eye Doctors Take On New Area Of Specialization

Some Tulsa eye doctors are specializing in procedures not on the eye, but around it.

Dr. Chad Chamberlain is an ophthalmologist at Triad Eye Medical Clinic, who specializes in something called oculoplastics, which focuses on the area outside the actual eye.

"Most of the patients we see usually have age related issues, like stretching of tendons or drooping of eyes and brows. But other people have growths or lesions around the orbit (or the lid margin) that other specialists or plastics specialists don't feel comfortable addressing," Chamberlain said.

Doctors say the procedures can be cosmetic for some, but are safety issues for others patients if the extra skin gets in the way of their vision.

In some cases, insurance will cover the surgeries.
