The Tulsa Sports Commission says the US Youth Soccer National Championship will be held in the city next year.
During a news conference Friday, Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett welcomed the announcement of the event which will be held at the Mohawk Soccer Complex July 20-26, 2015.
The sports commission says the event is expected to have an economic impact of over $4 million impact on the Tulsa area.
The Tulsa Sports Commission says its honored to host the event.
"In partnership with Oklahoma Soccer Association, Tulsa Sports Commission looks forward to showcasing a great tournament for the elite players who earn their way to the nationals," said Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and Tulsa Sports Commission.
Each summer, the US Youth Soccer Association crowns a boys and girls national champion in each of its seven age divisions. Officials say 96 teams from across the country will be in attendance.
The Mohawk Soccer complex, located on East 56th Street North just off Highway 75, has 17 fields.
The Tulsa Sports Commission says the complex will undergo a series of enhancements between now and July 2015 including the addition of a 4,000 stadium-style seats and exterior fencing around the complex.
The city and the Sports Commission have struggled to attract large tournaments to the complex.

So far it's hosted only one large-scale tournament since its opening more than a year ago. During that event traffic and parking became a major issue because of the park's design.
