OK Law Enforcement Agencies Increase Patrols For Memorial Day Weekend

Across the state, Oklahomans are finalizing their Memorial Day plans and so are law enforcement agencies.

Last year, seven people died over the Memorial Day weekend in Oklahoma. This year, agencies across the state hope to decrease that number by increasing patrols.

On Friday, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and eight other agencies team up for a project called "Traffic Enforcement Across Metro" or TEAM for short. They will be out making sure you're wearing your seat belt and crack down on drunk drivers.

The Highway Patrol plans to add extra patrols on state lakes. They're reminding boaters about a new state law. It lowers the blood alcohol level from .10 to .08.

This also affects implied consent where boaters must provide a breath or blood test if they're arrested for boating under the influence.

The Highway Patrol also reminds anyone planning to be on a lake that you must have a Coast Guard approved lifejacket for each person on board.
