Duncan Water Restrictions May Affect Opening Of New Spray Park

The city of Duncan says the planned Labor Day opening of a new spray park does not fly in the face of city water restrictions that have been in place for more than a year. 

Work is continuing on the new spray park “splash pad” at the site of the old Douglass Park Pool. 

Parks and Cemetery Superintendent Dana Stanley says the new water park will only use treated water from a 2,000 gallon tank. He says the old Douglass Pool used 125,000 gallons, and it leaked terribly. He says the “splash pad” is a great idea for children and adults. 

“Zero standing water, no chance of drowning, no lifeguards needed, very economical,” Stanley said. 

Duncan has been under stage three water restrictions since March 2013. That means residents can only use water outside on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s from midnight until 9 a.m. 

Stage four would mean eliminating all outdoor water consumption.  City Council could consider that at its next meeting on August 12.
