Tulsa Police: Helicopter Helps Catch Driver Who Ran From Officers

The police helicopter led officers on the ground to a driver they say wrecked an SUV during a chase then took off on foot. 

They identify the suspect as Michael Demaro, 39.

Police said the chase began at 5th and Utica at about 1:30 a.m. 

The chase ended about 13 miles away in the 8400 block of East 24th Street when Demaro crashed a 1997 Ford Explorer and ran into the neighborhood, according to police. They said the police helicopter helped them find Demaro in the 8300 block of East 23rd Street a short time later. 

Officers found a baggie on Demaro containing a substance which they said was methamphetamine, according to field tests. 

The booked Michael Demaro into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of eluding, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Jail records show Demaro was being held in lieu of a $15,800 bond with a court appearance set for September 2, 2014.
