Police officers shot a man holding a handgun outside an east Tulsa QuikTrip Tuesday evening.

Officers said a crisis line contacted police dispatch around 8:00 p.m. about a man threatening to commit "suicide by cop."

Tulsa Police Officer Demita Kinard said officers were given a description of the man and his vehicle and a short time later found him near 21st Street and 129th East Avenue.

Officers originally reported the man parked at the QuikTrip, got out of his pickup holding two handguns, walked toward officers and was shot in the neck.

However, as the investigation continued, Sergeant Dave Walker said the man first showed his gun by placing it on the dashboard, then, was shot when he held up a gun while in his truck.

Walker said while officers could see two guns, the man was holding one and didn't get out of the truck until after he was shot.

Because it was an officer-involved shooting, there will be an internal investigation.

EMSA took the man to a Tulsa hospital. There is no word on his condition.

Police have not released the names of the officers or the man.
