Wind Chill Advisories Issued For NE Oklahoma

?The News On 6 WARN team is tracking extremely cold weather headed toward the Sooner state. 

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued wind chill advisories for Wednesday and Thursday morning from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. in anticipation of the temperature drop. Minimum wind chill values from minus-5 to minus-15 degrees are expected.

The coldest air so far this winter will enter Oklahoma Tuesday as a pair of fronts move across the state.  The first front entered the state early Tuesday and a second surge of very cold air will move into Oklahoma late Tuesday evening.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says despite the arrival of the first cold front, daytime highs will be very similar to Monday with afternoon readings in the mid to upper 30s.

Late Tuesday, a stronger surge of arctic air will push across Oklahoma along with strong northerly winds. Crone says temperatures are expected to drop into the upper teens by early Wednesday.  Those low temps combined with north winds of 15 to 35 mph wind chill values are projected to be in the zero to -10 degree range. 

He says the high on Wednesday will only reach the lower 20s.

Crone says the National Weather Service may issue wind chill advisories late Tuesday and early Wednesday due to those strong north winds.
