Woodard Named AAC Player Of Week Once Again

The University of Tulsa junior guard James Woodard averaged 21.0 points last week in wins over UConn and USF, and earned the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, the league office announced Monday.

Woodard, a native of Arcadia, Okla., scored 21 points in each game, and shot 52 percent from the field (12-of-23). He shot an incredible .615 on 3-pointers (8-of-13), and added 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the two victories. Overall, he scored 42 points on 23 shots last week.

Tuesday against UConn, Woodard tallied 21 points and six rebounds to lead the Hurricane to the 66-58 victory. He made 6-of-12 field goals and 3-of-6 threes. Saturday at USF, he scored 21 points on 6-of-11 field goals and 5-of-7 treys, and added three steals. He scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half to pace TU in the 75-58 road win.

This is the second American Conference Player of the Week award for Woodard, and second straight weekly award for a Tulsa player. Woodard also earned the honor on Dec. 8, while classmate Shaquille Harrison earned the award on Jan. 12.

The Golden Hurricane, 12-5 overall and 5-0 in league play, plays host to Memphis (11-6, 4-2 American) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
