Creek Tribal Council Votes 'No Confidence' For Chief

A majority vote of no confidence in Principal Chief George Tiger is the result of an emergency meeting of the Muscogee Creek Nation.

Tiger's accused of making a deal behind the tribe's back for personal monetary gain.

Thursday night 12 council members voted yes to a vote of no confidence and two against - the same two members that were absent at the last vote.

The auditorium was full as tribal members solemnly sat and listened to the vote.

Many members speculated before the meeting that things would get heated, but things went rather smoothly.

Council speaker Thomas Yahola talked about what the meeting meant.

"This is just our statement you might say-tonight," Yahola said.

He said that it doesn't really affect the process of a possible impeachment, but that it's just a way for the council to show where they stand.

Tribal members, like Tim Cheek, said what they hope to see moving forward.

"I'm hoping that the truth comes out on either side and I hope it comes out and the government, again, takes the necessary step that it needs to becoming accountable and transparent to its citizens,” he said.

News On 6 exclusively spoke with Tiger over the phone Thursday. He said he has tremendous support on his side and that his office will continue to operate.

Tiger said they will bring the best quality of life to the citizens of the Creek Nation and that when the time is right he will make a statement to the people of the Creek Nation who elected him, not the media.
