A man died in a crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike Tuesday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Trooper Dwight Durant said an SUV was pulling a U-Haul trailer in the outside, eastbound lane when the SUV jack-knifed. The SUV slid into the inside lane where it was broadsided by a semi, according to Durant.

Durant said the man driving the SUV died in the crash. A female passenger in the right front seat and a boy in the back seat were flown by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital, according. Durant said they were alert and talking when they left the scene.

The impact knocked the trailer loose from the SUV and it slid hundreds of feet down the highway.

The wreck happened near Claremore on a bridge over the Verdigris River at about 9:30 a.m.

Jack Damrill with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says the eastbound lanes were temporarily shut down while the medical helicopter landed on the turnpike.
