Hundreds of shoppers lined up Thursday at Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City, for the grand opening of Oklahoma’s first H&M store.
Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M), one of the world’s largest fashion retailers known for offering fashion-forward apparel and quality basics, opened its first Oklahoma location at noon on Thursday at Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City.
To celebrate the opening day, the Quail Springs Mall location offered the first 300 shoppers in line an H&M t-shirt and Access to Fashion Pass, valued from $10 to $200, in addition to other opening offers and fun giveaways. Some Oklahoma shoppers even began lining up outside the store at about 12 a.m. Thursday.
According to officials with the company, the new OKC location will offer collections for ladies, men, young ladies, and young men, to separate “store within a store” sections for accessories, lingerie, maternity, sports apparel, and a plus-size line, H&M+. The Oklahoma City location will also carry H&M’s children’s collection, from newborn to 14 years old.
“We really have something for everyone, every age group. Anybody can find something they like,” said Patrick Shaner, U.S. Expansion Specialist for H&M. “I think we can definitely offer them (OKC customers) great trends. That’s one of our strong points that we are always accomplishing. We always have new pieces coming in.”
On top of offering the latest fashion trends at affordable prices, H&M is also the first fashion company to roll out a global garment recycling program. H&M customers can donate unwanted pieces of clothing from any brand to receive a voucher for 20 percent off their entire next purchase for each bag of donated clothing.
H&M was established in Sweden in 1947. There are now 379 stores in the U.S. and about 3,600 H&M stores in 59 markets worldwide. Its newest Oklahoma City location has hired about 30 people, almost all of them locally.
