The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) kicked off its 64th patrol academy Wednesday morning.
At 9 a.m., about 40 new cadets reported to the Robert R. Lester Training Center at 36th and MLK to start a rigorous 20-week law enforcement training program. The group includes two females and 38 males; ages range from 21 to 43.
According to officials, the OHP Academy is very structured, with workdays of 12 to 18 hours. A typical day includes physical training, drill and ceremony, and inspections, followed by classroom instruction.
Evening hours are used for course studies, assignment completion, practical exercises and preparation for the following day.
