Police say a 22-year-old man died after crashing his car into a telephone pole in south Tulsa early Thursday.
Officers said the crash occurred on East 81st Street at Hudson just after 2:30 a.m. The 2011 Chevrolet Aveo was westbound on 81st Street when it went off the road and struck a pole and a brick wall in front of Holland Hall school, according to police.
The car then caught fire.
Police say Kenneth Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a 19-year-old Lyndsie Stedman, also of Tulsa was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are still investigating but they say it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
Officers told News On 6 reporter Erin Jones they believe the couple were engaged.
