You often hear about dogs being attacked by coyotes. It's becoming a problem in both rural and urban areas.
For years, people have been told to use sound to keep coyotes away. Now, this special coat for your dog could prevent attacks.
It was first created in California by a family who lost their pet to a coyote attack. Developers say the plastic spikes protect the dog's body and neck.
Despite its unusual design, the coat doesn't seem to bother dogs. It also provides some added comfort for owners who can't always keep an eye on their pets.
"She doesn't have any trouble moving around in it. She's pretty comfortable, so I do feel more comfortable letting her out on her own," Pet owner Chris Ducommun said.
Veterinarians say the $70 coat is a good idea for pet owners, but they warn it doesn't cover everywhere a coyote may attack.
