An Oklahoma County inmate was recaptured Tuesday afternoon after he walked out of the jail Sunday, subsequently escaping from custody.
Kunta Kenta Griffith, 39, was captured by the Oklahoma County sheriff's warrant team, a department spokesman said. He was arrested on a complaint of escape from a penal institution.
Griffith was booked into the Oklahoma County jail by Oklahoma City police officers Friday for two municipal warrants, according to the arrest affidavit filed Monday.
About 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Griffith blended himself in with the weekend inmates who were to be released after serving their weekend time in the Oklahoma County jail, according to the arrest affidavit.
Griffith went to a releasing area, grabbed a change of clothes and changed into those clothes. Griffith left the jail without being released or bonding out.
Griffith is listed as homeless and is a known gang member.
According to the corrections department, Griffith has been convicted of several crimes involving weapons and drugs. He was last convicted in 2010.
