Prosecutors have charged a father with murder after police found him next to his daughter's lifeless body in a Pittsburg County pond.
Court records say Devin Sizemore told investigators he wanted to baptize his daughter because of all the evil in the world.
“She was a happy kid,” Robert Spurlock said.
Her name was Emily Sizemore.
“She just had that spark in her eye, like when she was older she was gonna go places,” Spurlock said.
Emily was just 21 months old.
Investigators say her own father, Devin Sizemore, killed her by drowning her in a farm pond on this property.
“I don't see how any parent could that to their own flesh and blood,” Spurlock said.
Spurlock says the little girl's mother is his girlfriend.
He believes Sizemore murdered his daughter to hurt her mother.
“Very, very unstable,” he said.
Court records say Devin told OSBI agents he put Emily in the pond to "baptize" her because of all the evil in the world and claimed he held her underwater for maybe 30 seconds.
“Quite frankly, I hope he gets the death penalty,” Spurlock said.
The probable cause affidavit says Sizemore took Emily from his mother's house on Tuesday.
Police looked for the two on Thursday after family reported Sizemore claimed he was God and that his daughter was with God.
Investigators say police were searching for Sizemore at a park not far away when they heard yelling. They came to the scene and that's when they found Sizemore and then his daughter.
When Krebs officer Jack Suter went in to for Sizemore, he said he saw Emily face down in the water.
OSBI says the officer then tried to get to Emily, her father tried to fight the officer.
“He tried to drown one of the officers, choked him, put him under water,” OSBI Assistant Special Agent Jenny Virden said.
Officers tried to revive the little girl, but she already was gone.
