A Tulsa murder suspect who apparently shot himself in the hand after police said he killed another man has been released from the hospital. Michael Lee Jester was booked into the Tulsa County Jail Sunday morning on complaints of first-degree murder, leaving the scene of and eluding police.
Detectives believe Jester, 46, shot another man August 10, 2016, at an east Tulsa home near 4th and Garnett. A woman took the shooting victim to a nearby QuikTrip where he died of his wounds.
The victim has been identified as Kyle Thomas, 30. Thomas was a convicted felon with a history of theft, drug and assault convictions, according to the Department of Corrections.
Police caught up to Jester later that day after a pursuit and foot chase. They say Jester hid in a hot trailer for 45 minutes in the afternoon heat with a gunshot wound in his hand. They filled the trailer with pepper spray then found him passed out under a pile of clothes.
Officers found two guns in his vehicle including one they believe may be the murder weapon.
Officers took a woman who was with Jester, Cierra Hughes, into custody. They are also looking for another woman, 34-year-old Jacalyn Ketcherside, who they said dropped the murder victim off at the QuikTrip then left the scene because of an outstanding warrant.
